About Me

I am a friendly and enthusiastic online maths tutor based in Seaford, East Sussex, with 8 years' experience providing 1:1 private maths tuition for Key Stage 3, GCSE, Further GCSE and A Level.

I have a BSc (Hons) degree in Mathematics and a BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Sciences. I also have an Enhanced DBS Certificate (Disclosure & Barring Service).

I consider it a privilege to work with children and young adults, see their maths confidence grow and positively impact their lives.

Private Tuition

The demand for 1-1 private tuition has increased rapidly over the past decade. This has been fueled by the increasing expectation on young people to achieve good exam results in an increasingly competitive world.

1-1 maths tuition works so well because tutors are able to tailor their lessons to the individual needs of the student in a relaxed, low-pressure environment where it is 'safe' to make mistakes.

My approach is to first build confidence by introducing mathematical concepts from first principles, rather than assuming previous knowledge, and to identify any gaps or weaknesses.

Online Tuition

I use an online collaborative whiteboard called BitPaper, which is free for students, along with Skype for audio.

With the latest technology and fast broadband there is now little difference between online and face-to-face maths tuition.

Online maths tuition has a number of advantages:

  • You can find a maths tutor that meets all your requirements instead of having to choose whoever is available locally.

  • Lessons can be saved and reviewed at any time.

  • Parents can easily monitor what is being taught and how.

  • Covid secure: No need for social distancing or PPE.

Free Trial

I offer a half hour no-obligation FREE trial for all prospective students. This gives the student the opportunity to decide whether or not they would like to continue their maths tuition, and enables me to identify areas of strength and weakness.

It is important to have the right fit when looking for a maths tutor, so this is my way of ensuring you can make this decision without having to commit to weekly tuition or pay any fees.

" Carl tutored Maths to our son in the lead up to his GCSEs. Carl was punctual, patient and often gave longer than was expected. Would thoroughly recommend him."
